Plant Care Instructions

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR NEW PLANTS

Unpack your plants as soon as possible

Check Plant Health

Some yellowing leaves are expected after shipment, this is not concerning. You can trim them or let them fall off naturally. Examine variegated leaves - browning on the lighter areas is common and not of concern.

Acclimating your plant

  1. Goal for humidity is 70-75% and temperature is 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity is especially important for Alocasia - I grow all of my alocasia in 70-75% humidity.
  2. Avoid direct sunlight at first to minimize stress.

Watering

  1. Check the potting medium (soilless mix, moss, pon, stratum, etc) for moisture. I ship plants on the drier side so they are less prone to rot. Overwatering after you receive the plant could lead to root rot.
    1. If the potting medium feels dry, lightly water the plant. If the medium feels moist, do not water the plant more.
    2. For plants in stratum/perlite, if the pot has condensation on it, please add only a tiny drop of water.  If you received your plant in a self-watering pot, add a small amount of water to the basin to be wicked up to the plant.
    3. SPAGHNUM MOSS
      1. If medium is dry - water or mist lightly from the top. If it feels moist, wait until it dries out a bit before you water again.

Corms

  1. I ship corms in sphagnum moss. However, I do not recommend leaving corms in the moss and cup that I ship them in. Corms need more airflow than the small cup allows. I personally use stratum/perlite mixture for my corms.
  2. I DO NOT guarantee variegation on corms.

DO NOT REPOT for at least 2 weeks. Repotting is stressful and repotting too soon can cause more stress on your newly arrived plant.

FRESH IMPORT CARE

Heat and high humidity are your friends with fresh imports. Heat should be around 70-75 degrees with humidity of at least 75%. High humidity helps to lessen any shipping shock. If you don't have a greenhouse, greenhouse cabinet or grow tent, a clear Rubbermaid storage bin works great for acclimating imports. Open the bin once a day for airflow. After a week, you can start slowly increasing the amount of time you open the bin each day to acclimate to room humidity.  Mist the top of the moss rather than pouring water in the pot. Make sure to keep condensation on the cup.
